There is more than one artist named Jaffa: 1) Mr. David Kakon aka Jaffa was discovered by Nude Recordings (Canada), then cared by StereoDeluxe in Europe. David was born in Montreal 1976, has an honours degree in Pure Mathematics, 15 years of classical piano training behind him and besides that became a complete organ maniac, collecting vintage keyboards and producing his own music on such instruments and machines as the Fender Rhodes, Moog MultiMoog, Roland Alpha-Juno2, Waldorf Pulse, Hammond B3, Hohner Clavinet and Wurlitzer EP. Tracks that embody layers of sexy, sleazy chords and riffs over chunky beats and basslines. Laid back rhythms along side screaming Hammond organs, Jaffa’s tracks are inspired by gifted artists as Taj Mahal, Ramsey Lewis, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, Mose Allison, John Coltrane, Bill Evans and BookerT.Jones. David himself describes his sound as “a sort of Fat Albert meets Emmanuelle on a beach in a Tahiti type thing”… 2) Jaffa is the name of the exciting collaboration between vocalist/composer Christel Meijer and DJ/producer/percussionist Phil Martin (Jazzinvaders, Laura Vane & The Vipertones). The two have created a remarkably fresh sound, flirting with jazz and electronic music, and is characterized by the rich sound of Christel's sublime voice. During shows the duo works with live sampling of vocals and percussion, presenting dreamy songs that merge into danceable grooves. Jaffa impresses with their jazzy synth pop with an edge, catchy melody lines, intriguing lyrics and deep vocals. Their debut album 'Echoes' was released in summer 2011. Read more on Last.fm.
