JJ Demon came up with the idea for his sound in jail. He heard it in his head. He would often try to explain it to people over the phone, but they probably just thought he was crazy. His past had given him a reputation as somewhat of an eccentric and read like a pamphlet on troubled youth; riddled with addiction, violence, crime, death, and time spent in prison. As JJ began vividly describing what he heard in his head (even then he was calling it Funeral Disco), producers began to catch on. Before anyone knew it, a movement was born. He was released from jail in April of '09 and was quickly signed to Revel Music Group, owned by 9 time Grammy-winning producer and founder of the legendary 100 times platinum Ruffhouse Records, Joe “The Butcher” Nicolo, who launched the careers of The Fugees, Cypress Hill, Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean, Kris Kross, Will Smith, and now JJ Demon. His flow and syllable placement are unmatched even by the most gifted rappers, yet his music has a deeper meaning. It's something far more important than braggadoccio and flaunting. He doesn't want "street-cred", he wants to give you his heart in a box. His hooks are catchy, his lyrics witty. It's not rapping, it's songwriting. Funeral Disco IS his genre. He fits into no other.
