Ideal Standard

There are two artists sharing the name Ideal Standard: 1. An alternative rock group from York, England 2. A electronic project from Latvia by Hardijs Lediņš & Kaspars Rolšteins 3. Electro/New Wave band from Vercelli. Ideal Standard are a genre-defying band; with an original sound, energy and thoughtful lyrics. Varying from the punk-rock anthem of "Cold" to the reflective songs of love, loss, jealousy and despair such as "We Make Our Beds to Lie". With themes of war and peace it is an experience destined to leave the listener moved and enlightened. Their debut album, Communications Down, is a stunning 8-track masterpiece - filled with emotional and melodic songs that touch on real life issues. From jazzy moody piano songs to busy leftfield noisepop anthems and epic soundscapes. The Standard are epic songwriters with a conscience. Soul Asylum on holiday with Mercury Rev, The Only Ones and an Indie Pink Floyd. Heart-wrenching stuff that will last in time. The band was formed in York, UK by frontman Keith Kinsella (vocals, guitar) and Nick Giles (bass guitar) in the autumn of 2000. After various late-night song writing and stilton binges songs and gigs came and went and they were soon joined by J Carmichael (guitar, synths) and Sam Broadbent (drums). Ideal Standard played a central role in the anti-war protest movement before the 2003 gulf war, earning themselves a notoriety not just for tea drinking and raucous cheese and cracker sessions. The first album Communications Down appeared in 2004, released by independent label Matchbox Recordings.
