GENF existed from 1996 to 1997. they were founded in cologne to update the analogue traditions of krautrock with digital sounds and some sexy funk. genf were efficient: in the little over a year of their existence they released 3 records with different approaches. in january 1997 the vinyl-ep "rohgenf" on cologne's "finlayson tonträger" with rough 4-track-recordings from their rehearsel space capturing the live sound of genf. (vip-schaukel). april 1997 followed the cd "import/export" on the munich based label "compost records". it was recorded in can's "inner space studio" in weilerswist/cologne with a more developed sound exploring the possibilities of sampling and re-editing genf's live sessions. (aachen-brüssel, medienporno, luftlax/postlax). the set was completed by the vinyl-ep "aachen-brüssel" with remixes by the bandmembers and whirlpool's hans nieswandt (video: "aachen-brüssel (eurocity-mix)"). plus another studio track (and one of the group's favourites) "nogger". every song genf ever played was released except for one which is included here in a demoversion.
