DJJD is a performer and composer who brings eastern and west-coast mentalities together, centering them and cracking them open to reveal the crunk beneath more vigorous backbeat-driven dancehall. A student of jazz guitar, West African percussion and voice, his once-ambient sound was steeped in the Guinean and Malian sounds of Boston master djembe drummers Alan Tauber and Joh Camara for four years before he moved to San Francisco in 05. There, the local currents of intense mid-tempo dubcore have given his live sets of laptop madness an otherworldly ambiance. Despite it's delicacy, the flowing texture frequently yields to unrelenting, filthy bass lines, anchoring the human dancer in the experience. He has delved into minimal breakbeats, blip-hop and psyphy, though gravitates towards the (very) low hundreds as a comfortable bpm. No foe of harmony, JD brings musical structures forth in which even jaded glitch-heads occasionally lose themselves. See also Palindrome, JD's moniker for his chillout/downtempo performances.
