Best known for his award winning and ground breaking work on Acclaim Entertainment's Turok: The Dinosaur Hunter series, Darren Mitchell has become one of the major audio developers in the interactive gaming industry. He has had glowing press reviews, received several awards, and has had his work and career featured on the Discovery Channel. Darren began studying music at age twelve when he started piano lessons with his local neighborhood piano teacher. After a mere four years he came to be under the tutelage of Dr. Alfred Mouledous, a Tenured Professor of Piano at Southern Methodist University and the Principal Pianist for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Two years later, Darren attended SMU on a full piano scholarship. He later graduated with a Bachelor's of Music Degree from the University of North Texas. Darren's compositional career started when he was just sixteen years old, writing various pieces in the classical style for his fellow musicians. He later went on to study composition with Dr. Tom Austin, former President of the International Computer Music Association, and Dr. Cindy McTee, Chairperson of the UNT School of Composition. Impressed with his compositions and his grasp and understanding of Computer Based Composition and knowledge of synthesis and MIDI programming, Dr. McTee appointed him to the position of Teaching Fellow of the Computer Music Lab where he taught the incoming Freshman MIDI, Computer Music History, and the then popular Frequency Modulation (FM) Synthesis. After his graduation, Darren went on to teach at Brookhaven Jr. College where his courses included Introduction to MIDI, and Advanced MIDI applications. While there he was also in charge of the MIDI/Recording studio, which he upgraded to include the latest software and hardware available at the time. He also was on the Adjunct Faculty at Collin County Community College where he instructed students in Analog and Digital Synthesis, Advanced MIDI Applications, and Audio Engineering for Multimedia Applications. In 1995, Darren started his career in games when he accepted a position with Iguana Entertainment as a composer and sound designer. His first project was NFL Quarterback Club 1996. Since then he has gone on to create audio for over twenty-five top selling games, the Acclaim Corporate ID Logo, which appeared in over 100 games world-wide, and music for children's videos, films, radio, bands, websites and has worked with numerous musicians as writer, arranger, performer, producer, and MIDI programmer.
