2009 was a good year for DJ Ollie, as well as maintaining his residency for Innovation, playing at all their events in the UK, Amsterdam and Spain, he was also booked to play both main arena upfront and old skool jungle sets for a host of various promoters including Warning, Grooverider’s Grace event, Def:Inition, Skibadee’s Bangers & Mash parties, Epidemik, up in the Midlands for Random Concept & Muzik Hertz, and receiving widespread acclaim for his impromptu 2 hour jungle set at Friction's debut Shogun Audio event at Lightbox. Inspired by the sounds of influential stations Kiss, Cyndicut & Unity in the scene’s early days, DJ Ollie acquired his first set of turntables in 1991 and started buying tracks by the likes of Joey Beltram, N Joi & 2 Bad Mice, spanning early releases on the legendary Rising High, Reinforced & Moving Shadow imprints. Having earned his stripes playing at local parties, Ollie started landing his first proper bookings around 1994 when the rave sound was developing into what we now know as Drum & Bass. After gaining his first major residency at the legendary Pure Science night at Maidstone’s Atomics, it wasn’t long before was stepping up to grace the decks of nights such as One Nation & Movement. In 1997 Ollie stepped into a job at Mickey Finn’s ‘Bitin Back Records’, where he was manager for 5 years. He also spent occasional stints behind the counter at Romford’s ‘Boogie Times’, one of the biggest Drum & Bass retailers at the time. 2001 saw the launch of his own label, Direct Recordings. The label is still going strong seven years later and recently saw the release of his first solo production, ‘Time To Get Nasty’. Over the years DJ Ollie’s skills have been in regular demand across London, the South-East of England and as far afield as Spain, Germany, Holland, Slovenia and the Greek Islands. His versatility and experience render him available to play all styles of Drum & Bass and have seen him play upfront, old skool, jungle and liquid sets for a host of distinguished promoters including AWOL, Def:inition, Breakin Science, Devotion, Best of British, Breakology, Liquid Sessions, Heat, Bassment, Lowdown, Random Concept, Battle of the MC’s, High on Life, Ravenation, and of course gain him a residency with award-winning promoters Innovation. DJ Ollie has been nominated in the ‘Best Breakthrough DJ’ category at the National D&B Awards for the last two years running. DJ Ollie did a one year stint hosting the D&B show on Ministry of Sound Radio. He now hosts the monthly Innovation Podcast which is available to download on iTunes. Read more on Last.fm.
