Australian songwriter and multi instrumentalist Chris Altmann is touring internationally to celebrate the release of his debut solo album Que Paso. Adelaide born and Melbourne based, Altmann is taking his sound to North America in 2011. Spanish for ‘What Happened’, Que Paso is a tongue-in-cheek reference to the change from the hard rocking style that fans have come to expect from Altmann’s better known group, The Vandas. The sound is influencd by the border town grooves of Doug Sahm and Jerry Jeff Walker, combined with the up tempo country rock beats of Chuck Berry and Levon Helm. It’s the soundtrack to a late night pickin’ party with your pals, to backyard BBQs and midnights at the Medicine Show. Musically light hearted with lyrics that are at times deep and introspective, it’s an album that’s designed to make you feel good, and the band’s superb musicianship is sure to keep the crowds dancing. What the Press has to say about Chris Altmann and Que Paso: “Impossible to resist. Altmann’s charisma just shines, the songs are great, the album sounds like it was a buzz to make.” – Rhythms Magazine “An upbeat and highly entertaining premiere outing.” – Exclaim! Magazine “3 ½ stars. The record sizzles and pops like beans over a fire; one part 70s Rolling Stones, one part The Band, and one part Faces. Chris rocks his big-hatted butt off!” – The Sunday Mail, Adelaide. “4 stars. There’s nothing alternative about Chris Altmann’s brand of country. Que Paso is like a double shot of Jack Daniels served up straight.” - The Age, Melbourne “Que Paso is so much more than booze and bruising country rock. There’s no real mystery in Chris Altmann’s ability to search out, mine and exploit the best in country and southern bar rock – it’s simply a matter of raw talent.” – Beat Magazine Read more on Last.fm.
