An Ohio native, Chad Hoefler spent much of his youth chasing insects and spiders and overturning rocks to uncover strange and novel worlds. He also dedicated a sizeable portion of his youth to music. At the age of 6, Chad began taking formal guitar lessons, which were followed by 9 years of classical piano instruction. Chad also participated in vocal choirs and other musical acts associated with his education, which exposed him to diverse musical instruments and forms. However it was a marriage between Chad's fascination with biological and cosmological phenomena, which Chad describes as having a "poetic elegance and haunting beauty" and the influence that sound has on one's state of mind that has shaped his interests as a musician. "We really tend to underappreciate just how influential sound can be on our brain chemistry", explains Chad. In 2004, Chad entered the ambient arena by releasing his debut CD, Twilight in the Offing, on Hypnos Recordings. Chad has followed up this highly praised work with a sophomore release entitled, Quiet Glow, which can be found on the Lotuspike label. Ambient pioneer Robert Rich gets post-production credits on both releases. Chad's music has been featured on the syndicated Hearts of Space program, Star's End, and Echoes, among many others. In March of 2006, Chad began the production of a new album tentatively entitled Infinite Island. As of late, much progress has been made, and announcements about a future release date will be made.
