Alio Die, pseudonym of Stefano Musso (born 24 March 1968 in Milan, Italy), is an Italian organic ambient composer and producer. Characterized by evocative acoustic sounds manipulated and tendered electronically, Alio Die's work builds intimate soundscapes tied to the mystery and majesty of life and nature. Stefano Musso studied art and electronics in his home town of Milan and began performing ambient music under the name Alio Die in 1989. In the early 1990s he released two limited cassette releases, "Sit Tibi Terra Levis" and "Introspective". His first CD, "Under an Holy Ritual", was recorded and released in 1992 on his own label Hic Sunt Leones. It was reissued by Projekt in 1993, receiving international acclaim. Alio Die subsequently released more than 50 albums, and collaborated with many well-known artists such as Robert Rich, Vidna Obmana, Mathias Grassow, Nick Parkin, Yannick Dauby, Jack or Jive, Amelia Cuni, Raffaele Serra and Antonio Testa. His music is a fusion of acoustical elements, samples, echoing percussion, and deep, atmospheric sound design with elements of entropic formlessness. Alio Die's style has a lot in common with traditional Indian raga music in building an entire song from a simple, continuous starting tone.
