Anthony VanVranken began his music career in the unexpected cultural oasis of Salt Lake City. There he released his 2004 debut album Shift under local label Audioflo. Highly praised by local critics, Shift embraced the wide range of genres that would prove influential to VanVranken, from the chaotic noise of industrial and IDM to the danceable beats of downtempo and breaks. Shortly after this acclaimed release, AVV teamed up with fellow Audioflo producer Pelpp to deliver Pedal. Globally recognized for its warm atmospheric beats and sophisticated textures, this was a cozy journey through driving percussion and uplifting euphoric atmospheres. Following the success of these releases, AVV could be found playing select hours of Utah’s flourishing electronic music events. After a short followup collaboration with Pelpp -- zoned out autumn interlude Rake -- VanVranken released his next highly anticipated disc, Thin. 2006 would mark the beginning of a production hiatus as AVV explored the realms of DJ’ing and glitch hop under the moniker VNDMG. In the last 5 years, AVV has shared stages with distinguished names in the the western U.S. EDM scene, notably as part of Basscamp’s massive Temple of Boom lineup at Burning Man 2010. The conclusion of this hiatus saw AVV wandering the bay area and honing his productions skills in preparation for his full-length album Landed, to be released Spring of 2011. Aptly-titled, this LP blends A.VanVranken’s signature uplifting beats with intense layers of IDM, thick textures and haunting vocal samples. Now a San Francisco resident, VanVranken can be found performing around the Bay Area, with the occasional trip back to Utah as part of the Hive Collective. Read more on Last.fm.
