Vanja Smailović (born January 25, 1988 in Zagreb, Croatia) is a guitarist, composer and mixing engineer. He began his musical education by playing violin at age of 9, in a musical elementary school. After six years of classical music, he became interested in a new instrument - electrical guitar. He started playing guitar in highschool, at age of 15, being mainly influenced by Dave Murray, famous Iron Maiden lead guitarist. Many other famous guitarists like Michael Romeo, John Petrucci, Paul Gilbert, Yngwie Malmsteen, Eddie Van Halen, Darrel Dimebag, Chuck Schuldiner, Ritchie Blackmore formed his playing style, as well as defined his musical taste. He plays an Ibanez RGT220H, Gibson Les Paul Custom from 79' and Takamine TAN76 through Zoom G9.2tt multieffects processor. Currently, all of his music is produced at home, usually in one take, to preserve the original touch and idea of the song. The promo album "Wanjče - Home Recordings" (more of a "compilation") can be found here, available for a free download. He also plays lead guitar in Kva Naut, progressive rock/metal band from Zagreb and does various jam sessions in his spare time.
