Gyula Vikidál is a Hungarian singer. He was born in Jan 25, 1948. He started his career early as a rock vocalist in groups like Iris,[disambiguation needed] Pannonia, Gezarol, Pop, Rekorder and Gemler. When he joined the P Mobil heavy rock group, underground from start but soon enough with a broad fan base, he reached his eventual fame as a talented singer with tremendous international class, comparable to Ian Gillan and Ronnie James Dio. In 1979-81 he was a member of the Hungarian super group Dinamit. After that some of his former pals in P Mobil, both late talented virtuoso musicians Istvan Cserháti (d. 2004) and Sándor Bencsik (d. 1987) tempted him into P Box. He was in this group between 1983 and 1986. In 1983 he has his final breakthrough in the deep population, with the important dual role as the rebel-leader and pagan Koppány in the rock musical of István A Király, King Stephen. This has been set up in the 90s and in 2003. This role has become some kind of symbol for Hungarian resistance against imperialist powers like former Turkish or Ottoman empire and the Soviet Union. During the 1980s-90s and to some extent the 00s he has been a rock opera and, even more, opera singer with leading parts in Jesus Christ Superstar, Attila and Anna Karenina and dozens of other plays. He still sings rock, but in smaller contexts, in H.M.V and Boxer. He has been seen in many elite musicians get-togethers. Vikidál's image is very masculine and virile, the phrasing is colored by attack and the fact that he is a weight lifter and very athletic. His favorite spare time activity is sport fishing.
