There are two bands with the name Velvet Sky: 1) Bratislava, Slovakia Formed in 2001 Velvet Sky has shown a somewhat bizarre shifting of genres and attitudes to the music production. Evolved from mostly art-rock and folk acoustic beginnings to more complex conceptual projects later overshadowed by their recent electronic sample-based creations. Originally a studio band went live in 2009 with The Beaulique Project vs Velvet Sky project and occasional DJ-set appearances. By 2014 Velvet Sky released 12 albums, the recent We Never Close, I Will Not Buy This Record, Days We Remember and The Great Drive By were released under official labels. Velvet Sky's discography is a tangible demonstration of their evolution in musical styles perception and sound. The recent sample-based era with a broad mix of genres including nu-jazz, downtempo, synthpop or disco-house was launched by the Samplified LP and followed by I Will Not Buy This Record LP. However, released not too long before that, the acoustic Rok slnečníc (A Year of the Sunflowers) LP offered simple live-recorded folk/rock songs while the Imaginary OST dived into comprehensive experimenting with score themes for a fictive movie. Both were preceded by the Projekt: Prasa (Project: The Pig) which is a conceptual attempt to describe an inner world of a swine before getting scoffed at a gluttony garden party. Velvet Sky’s early LPs Suburban Clouds and Podivný experiment (The Weird Experiment) contain a substantial mixture of the acoustic projects above yet wrapped in a single package. Years later the Polnočný piknik pani Závišovej (Miss Roulade’s Midnight Junket) was an attempt to return to these early moods but was pushed back by the enthusiasm of that recent “samplified” era that broke out soon after. The recent Days We Remember and The Great Drive By are shifting the attitude again towards more complex sound compositions with live instruments, straight disco/house beats yet still largly acompanied by sampling, while We Never Close and The Harvest are more synthpop influences and minimalism. Velvet Sky was formed by Martin Kadlec and Pavol Bujnak in February 2001. Kazimir Zvonec joined the band in 2003, Zujka Jakalová in 2009. List of their projects would be incomplete without mentioning the Electronica mixtapes, Semiconductors Revenge music video or their contribution to an independent movies Dóza Story, Monštrum and 1407. Since 2008 the two original band members regularly participate on an Internet radio broadcast. In 2009 they started their occasional DJ-set appearances labled as 'Pastierske listy' (Sheepherds Lists) and joined a live act 'The Beaulique Project vs Velvet Sky'. The band spent a lot of time practicing before ever gracing the stage of any venue, not only to tighten the screws on the sound, but to grow closer as a unit. The members stepped into the studio at 7fx productions in February of '07 and recorded a 5-track EP known as the "Ever Silent EP." Since that time, things have been looking up for the fast-paced group. Their sound has settled on something resembling Chevelle, and their fan base is kids from 8 to 80. Having garnered positive reviews in local music circulars, Velvet Sky is looking to do a little playing. Velvet Sky is: Josh Reese Andrew Cousino David Schneider Zachary Manor Read more on Last.fm.
