The Joy Bus is a postpunk/shoegaze/psychedelic/indie rock band from Austin Tx. The band consists of Preston Maddox(vocals/guitar/sampling), Joshua Vaughn(guitar/bass/keyboards) and Jake McCown(drums, art). The sound is comparable to My Bloody Valentine, Helmet, Drive Like Jehu and At the Drive In. The Joy Bus began in 2006. Jake and Preston were in a band and the drummer quit after joining a prosperity gospel church, so they decided to name the new band The Joy Bus after a church bus from their hometown. The band released two records, "Mouth Full of People" and "It's Cheaper to Love Yourself", and played regionally. Original bassist Brandon Ray started losing his hearing and had to quit. After trying out multiple bass players, Josh learned how to play bass with his feet with a keyboard pedal while playing guitar at the same time, and the group continued on without a bassist as a three piece. The band then recorded "The Joy Bus Loves You The Most" and went on a national tour through middle america and the east coast. The songs "Suicide Club" and "I Should Have Killed You First" became music videos. The "Chinese Deathvan EP", a compilation of B-sides and the electronic song "Organ Donor", was released in 2007. Brooklyn group Me You Us Them was on most of the tour, through which the band met Ryan Steele, who recorded the next Joy Bus record, "Sleeping with Ghosts". Sleeping with Ghosts", was recorded in three days in Brooklyn NY in early January of 2009. A tour of the midwest followed. The group disbanded in the summer of 2009. Read more on Last.fm.
