Steve Coleman And Metrics

Steve Coleman and Metrics was a project of jazz saxophonist Steve Coleman working in a hip-hop mode. The group has been responisble for two albums, A Tale of Three Cities and The Way of the Cipher, both from 1995. Lyricists for the project were Sub-Zero, Kokayi, Utasi, Shahliek, Black Indian, and Black Thought. Musically, it featured Coleman along with Andy Milne (piano), Reggie Washington (electric bass), Gene Lake (drums), Ravi Coltrane (tenor sax), Ralph Alessi (trumpet), Michael Wimberly, (percussion), Ezra Greer and Duane Sarden (samples), Josh Jones (percussion), and dancer Laila.
