"Music is what this is all about." It's the summation of Stephanie Briggs. Go to a live show and you will see it is apparent from start to finish. Not heavy on cover songs or drinking songs, Stephanie fronts an original band with original ideas. Her writing has been described as "dripping with imagery" and "courageous". It's true that Stephanie has not stayed in the box when exploring her musical world, but it is also true that the music is relatable and beautiful. "I'm obsessed with writing music," she says of her craft. With songs about relationships from every point of view, scenes from movies, and self sabotage, Stephanie is at the battlefront staving off the conformity we find in artists too often these days. Her latest release, Spark, arrived with wide acclaim from critics all over. An album full of bikes, jacuzis, cameras, birds, and skeletons, Stephanie takes your ordinary, everyday things and makes them into the giants they deserve to be. In Photo Chemicals, a song about capturing a moment, she says intricately over waltzing music, "The camera catches the film inside the holes. You were looking at me, and the rest is history." What makes the delivery so much more than words, are the careful arrangements. Take a good listen in a set of headphones. It's a circus marching into town. While the elephants may stand out at once, upon closer inspection you take notice of sequins on costumes, finger cymbals, and goat hooves. The album is just that. A meticulous circus of indie-rock, folk, and pop. Visit Briggs' website at http://www.stephaniebriggs.com/ for news, tour dates, and new music. Read more on Last.fm.
