There are at least two artists who record under the name "Shima". The first is the famous Malaysian singer (see first description); the second is an electronic, experimental musician from Auckland, New Zealand (see second description). Shima (born and raised in Banting, Kuala Langat, Selangor, Malaysia) is a famous Malaysian singer, active in the late 80s and the early 90s. Shima's first musical influences were from her father who loved music and played the guitar, some of the artists she has credited as her influences are Lobo, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones (Most of the 60's and 70's British groups were popular with her parents). Throughout her youth Shima enjoyed singing, always singing while doing chores or studying. Shima's voice is very versatile, she sings very soft ballads to hard rock anthems with ease and enjoys all types of vocals. Shima started her professional singing career in the late 1980's singing in clubs with various musicians singing all types of music from "Folk" to "Hard Rock". Singing in the clubs was a good way for her to cut her teeth and learn about the music industry, while there were tough times, she knew she wanted to sing and worked hard to make her dreams come true. During this time she met Lord from the band "The Boys" and he asked her to sing a few songs with the band and eventually became the lead singer with the Boys. After performing in clubs for less than a year they were discovered and offered a recording contract with CBS (SONY Music) in the late eighties. In 1989 they recorded "Kelkatu Gugur Sayapnya" as the group "Shima and The Boys" - the only album recorded with "The Boys". In 1990, Shima started her solo career by recording a self titled album with SONY Music Malaysia, this was to be the first of 7 albums including one all English album. **Shima (1990) **Shima Vol. 2 (1991) **Shima 3: Teringin (1993) **More Than Your Girl (1993) **Luka Dilukai (1994) **Rasa (1997) **Aku Tetap Aku (1999) SONY Music Malaysia has also released 4 compilation albums and a soundtrack. **The Best of Shima (1994) **The Best of Shima: Vol. 2 (1995) **Best of Ballads (2004) **Keunggulan Shima (2006) **OST Sutera Putih (1995) Throughout the 1990's and early 2000's Shima did many concerts and private shows all over M**alaysia as well as in China, Brunei and Singapore.
