Alternative country singer/songwriter Renee Wahl is steadily gaining momentum with her infectious music and sweetly plaintive voice. Daniel Schwartz, host of Architecture in Sound on 91.9 WMEB stated, “Stop dead in your tracks good, Renee’s voice has got to be heard!” Born in Harrisburg, PA, Renee began singing professionally at 7, performing at amusement parks and area events. She was heavily influenced by the favorite music of her family members. Her parents played records for hours, singing along to Ruby and the Romantics, Jay and the Americans, Crystal Gayle, Elvis, Dolly Parton, the Association and more. Her siblings’ favorite artists, such as the Ramones, Concrete Blonde, Cyndi Lauper, the Cure and the Smiths, also played a major role. She moved to New York after high school and entered school for music and acting at Wagner College. After finding college life too predictable, Renee began traveling, eventually arriving in Philadelphia where she rented a funky apartment in the middle of the legendary South Street district and played in several successful local indie-rock alt-country bands. She later moved to Baltimore, MD where she played on the local club circuit. Renee also did a spell in the Air Force as a specialist in air transportation and later as a physicist…whew! In 2007, Renee finally made her way to Nashville where she has worked hard on the local club scene establishing her own style and sound and honing her songwriting skills. (So far in 2010 she has played over 67 shows in Nashville alone and is just as comfortable appearing solo with an acoustic guitar as she is with a full band). Upcoming CD Renee's debut album is titled “Cumberland Moonshine”. Last year she partnered with singer-songwriter Roger Prescott (leader of Trainwreck Ghost, and ex-member of The Texacala Jones Band, Walking Wounded, and The Pop!). Together they’ve created a body of songs that are edgy and cool with smart and engaging lyrics. Read more on Last.fm.
