Rabbinical School Dropouts

The Rabbinical School Dropouts are a 10 piece group from Long Beach, California, who deliberately mismatch their instruments to play kooky Jewish garage jazz with a sick sense of humour. They are part of the Jewish Rennaisance Movement. Friendly amendment: Saying Rabbinical School Dropouts "...play kooky Jewish garage jazz with a sick sense of humour" is like saying Michael Jordan just plays basketball or Charlie Parker just played alto saxophone. RSD are smack dab in the middle of Jewish musical tradition and, in fact, they embody the foundation on which it continues to evolve. Their music has at its base a set of Hebrew liturgical chants and modes to which dance rhythms have been added . In the process they fuse Eastern European peasant dances, gypsy tunes, free jazz, and space music. They wouldn't cause an eyebrow to be turned up at a wedding or bar mitzvah in 1960. They may be asked to leave the stand at a present day Long Island wedding or a Beverly Hills bar mitzvah though. Read more on Last.fm.
