Entranced, nearly basking in the radiance of R/D’s sound, audiences are swallowed up in his vibrant melodies, pounding beats, and zealous dedication to the craft. Dripping with angst and desire, R/D’s compositions can be at times dizzyingly beautiful, heartbreaking in their melancholy and dancefloor-crushing all at once. With artists clamoring to share bills and secure remixes, his edgy and experimental sound is finding new ears nationwide and beyond, elevating him from L.A. indie auteur to full-fledged underground sensation. A transplant from Middle America to the teeming sonic landscape of southern California, R/D was first a devotee of the post-punk aesthetic, before being introduced to the underground dance music scene in his teens—fully soaking in the electronic music of the era, and discovering the allure of DJing. Becoming a part of the scene meant throwing his own parties, promoting shows, and cultivating his own unique sound. Embracing the deliberate grandeur of the nascent bass movement, R/D emerged with an entire catalog of big, brash bass and lush, symphonic compositions. Patient and passionate, White’s sound moves both body and soul. Not content to rework straightforward dance or hip-hop tracks, R/D’s eclecticism lead him to today’s most cutting edge artists, resulting in massively successful remixes of Swedish songstress Fever Ray (“I’m Not Done”) and James Blake’s earth-shattering “Wilhelm Scream,” both of which landed him high atop Hype Machine’s charts. R/D has been tapped to join his friends The Glitch Mob on the road, and has toured extensively with bass music pioneer VibeSquaD. This fall, he will be joining forces with one of the biggest producers in North America, Bassnectar, for a run of shows, followed by a massive tour with Beats Antique. As a follow-up to his early 2011 debut full-length Liquid Heart Keeper, R/D’s is slated to release a new EP on Dec. 5 entitled “Bay Crush” on Tycho Recordings – featuring a slew of remixes by today’s hottest artists, including Minnesota and ill.Gates.
