PortaMento is Jesper Hahn, born 1976 in Denmark. The project came into existence in 1997, inspired by the great artists of the time and born out of the desire to make melodic tracks with a slighly darker twist. The very first tracks were made on a Roland W30 12bit sampler workstation using the built in midi sequencer. All composing was done using a tiny 240×62 dot monochrome display. This was soon replaced by a software sequencer and a growing sonic arsenal, at one time counting more than 20 vintage analog synths. However as software synths became more and more convincing, the hardware arsenal was reduced in size, and today only few are left. While the musical style has changed slightly over the years, the degree of outside influence, that is from the changing goa/psytrance scene, has been minimal. The main influence has remained the style of the late 90′s, Israeli artists in particular. Needless to say, the rewards have not been financial, but from listener feedback and seeing the crowd go nuts at live gigs. Read more on Last.fm.
