Polecat Creek Original roots county music from the piedmont of North Carolina- the tradition continues today, with latter-day southern songwriting duo, Kari Sickenberger and Laurelyn Dossett. They have been singing together for 10 years, accompanied by some of the finest old-time and bluegrass musicians in North Carolina. The history of Polecat Creek is characterized by a series of fortunate accidents. In the mid 1990’s Kari Sickenberger and Laurelyn Dossett were both living in the Greensboro, NC area. Through some mutual friends they ended up in a book club together. A guitar standing in the corner of Kari’s apartment lead to an evening of harmony singing – Carter Family songs and some early Gillian Welch. They eventually started writing their own songs and decided to form Polecat Creek, named after a small stream that runs through Pleasant Garden, North Carolina, Laurelyn’s home at the time. Polecat Creek continues to perform around the southeast, with concerts and festivals including Merlefest, Birmingham’s City Stages, The Eno River Festival, Floydfest, and Dahlonega’s Bear on The Square. Kari and Laurelyn also conduct workshops in harmony and honky-tonk singing and lead gospel-sings. Read more on Last.fm.
