Perla, the stage name of Ermelinda Pedroso Rodríguez D'Almeida (Caacupé, 17 March 1952), is a Paraguayan Brazilian singer. Born and raised in Paraguay, she moved to Brazil at an early age in search of challenges and opportunities. Her career gained great visibility because she aimed to make the great international successes accessible to the masses, because at that time the LP discs were expensive to the majority of people. So she adapted several songs to portuguese/spanish, selling with a lower cost. She raised to prominence in the 1970s with her hit Fernando, a Portuguese-language version of ABBA's song, from the same decade. During her career, she has sold more than 10 million records and won 10 Gold Records, 2 Platinum and a Double Platinum, among other awards. Currently, Perla has concerts three times a week in small cities in Brazil. In 2006, she received a great tribute to her career in Paraguay. Perla married a brazilian, who was her employer and has an adopted daughter named adult and Perlinha, currently has a granddaughter.
