Pablo Lubadika

Porthos started his career as a guitarist with Lovy du Zaïre, and later Orchestre Kara in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo. In pursuit of greater success he eventually moved on to Lomé, Togo and again to Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, where he was a member of L'African All Stars. Okominiokolo Originally released by Sterns in 1994, this album is a fine showcase of Pablo Lubadika's talents as a main draw in his own right having served as a session musician and played bass on the 1983 debut LP by well known Soukous band Les Quatre Etoiles. The order of the day on Okominiokolo is relentlessly catchy uptempo pop music with vibrant highlife guitars and an emphasis on robust energetic beats. While the production os modern, there's never an excessive intrusion of technology here, and a disciplined adherence to the values of traditional musicianship are essential to the success of this accessible and entertaining slice of Afropop.
