MUSICALBI were born in Castelo Branco in 1983 with the objective of collecting and divulging traditional Portuguese music. The main trait of MUSICALBI’s project is the creation and remaking of traditional themes, always respecting their roots. Today MUSICALBI are considered one of the references of new traditional music. By crossing Portuguese, Celtic, Galician and Arabic musical environments, gradually introducing new musical instruments, as well as developing new creative arrangements we have brought new sonorities into traditional music. Nationally, we have given hundreds of shows; abroad, we have been present in concerts in Spain, France, Macau and China. Recently, in May, 2007 we were in Mexico City representing Portugal in OLLIN KAN TALPLAN 4TH INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL, and in June we were in Pulawy, Poland. We have been in several TV shows, namely in RTP’s “Olha que Dois”, “A Manhã”, “Portugal ao Desafio” and “Praça da Alegria”; in TVI’s “Batatoon”, “Olá Portugal” and “Vida é Bela”; in SIC’s “SIC Dez Horas”; in TV Galicia’s “Luar”. In 1991 we recorded our first LP; in 1998 we released our second work “Musicalbi”, this time on CD, and in 2001 we released our third record, “Entrelaços”. We are presently recording a new work to be released soon. Since 2000, we have been responsible for organising “Entrelaços” – the International Traditional Music Festival of Castelo Branco.
