The Mosaic Whispers, founded in 1991, is the oldest co-ed a cappella group at Washington University in St. Louis. Whispers has gained its national recognition with appearances on 6 national compilations, including Ben Folds Presents University A Cappella, Voices Only 2007, BOCA 2002 (Best of College A Cappella), Top Shelf A Cappella Vol. 1 (Collegiate A Cappella Music Organization), CARA (Contemporary A Cappella Recording Association), Voices Only 2005, and at ICCA (International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella) Competitions. The group performs on and off campus at numerous administration and private events, competes in the ICCA, tours around the country, and hosts an annual concert, Splash of Color, featuring guest groups from around the country. The group also records extensively, and Page 9, Mosaic Whispers' 9th studio album, was released in April 2011, joining previous award-winning favorites Behind Bars, Defrosted, and Against the Grain. Whispers is made up entirely of Washington University undergraduates, who arrange and perform all of the music, and holds auditions at the very beginning of each semester.
