Momposonica

Momposonica was a Latino American alternative rock band that combines punk, pop, latin percussion and electronic music, formed in New Jersey, United States in 2003. The original lineup consisted of singer Luis Garcia, drummer Martin Quintero, bassist Alessandro Rueda, guitarist Felipe Taborda and percussionist David Pinto, all five original members hail from Colombia. In early 2008, Momposonica split up. They reformed as a four-piece band in 2009, with Colombian bassist Mauricio Molina and Salvadoran singer-songwriter Carolina Craig. The name Momposonica refers partly to Mompos, a town in Colombia and partly to the American garage rock band The Sonics and pays tribute to the work of Afro-Colombian singer and cultural preservationist Totó la Momposina.. When Carolina Craig and Mauricio Molina collaborated with original members Felipe Taborda and David Pinto in early 2009, Momposonica's lineup was completed and set the stage for their new album title "Sistema de Cambio" (english: System of Change).
