メガマソ (Megamasso) are a three-piece rock band in the visual kei scene formed in Tokyo, Japan in 2006. The band was formed by 涼平 (Ryohei), the former frontman and guitarist of 彩冷える. Remaining under NXSIE RECORDS during their indies career, the band signed with major label avex trax during the summer of 2009. Their musical style has an experimental sound mixing together punk, ballad, metal, and pop rock songs. Megamasso were originally a four-piece band formed by Ryohei and consisting of ex-R&B vocalist インザーギ (INZARGI), former Dali bassist Gou, and former 彩冷える support drummer 優太 (Yuta). Ryohei created the band's name as he had wanted a four syllable name since he was in his first band, but in Japanese characters as he didn't care how it was romanized in English. He had chosen メガマソ because the syllables "me ga ma so" sounded beautiful to him. The band's first release was the mini album 涙猫, released December 6, 2006 through Like an Edison shops throughout Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka. On the 13th, it became available to purchase nationally. It since reached #100 on the major Oricon chart, where it charted for two weeks. Their first live was held at Shibuya O-EAST on December 16. They had played twice at the same venue on the same day, calling the lives "DAYLIGHT" and "LIMELIGHT," respectively. At each live, attendees were given the single ニューロマンサー (神経系亜人性). The DAYLIGHT live started at 14:00 while the LIMELIGHT live started at 18:00; the single's cover art distinguished which live it was at. The single is a new version of the song ロマンサー by 彩冷える, and the title is a pun on the book Neuromancer by William Gibson. On January 14, 2007, Megamasso released their second mini album, 櫂の目塔の属領, which reached #8 on the indies Oricon chart, and #129 on the major Oricon chart, where it charted for a week. On March 9 the band started their first tour, LIVE-TOUR 2007 〜新月の水たまりより〜, at Sapporo BESSIE HALL, and ended seven shows later at Zepp Tokyo on the 24th. Their first full-length album, ゆきしたたりほし, was released during the tour on the 21st. This album reached #5 on the indies Oricon chart and #148 on the major Oricon chart where it charted for a week. On June 9th, Yuta left the band due to differences in the direction he personally wanted the band to go in. Megamasso wouldn't get another drummer, so instead they use recording and live support drummers. Megamasso released their second full-length album in the same year, またたくよる, released seven months after their debut album. It reached #4 on the indies Oricon chart and #78 on the major Oricon chart where it charted for a week. They held a winter tour, titled 冬駆ける眼窩 (Fuyu Kakeru Ganka), which started at Fukuoka DRUM SON on November 21 and ended at Shibuya-AX on December 26, hitting seven stops. During the entire tour, the PV DVD モダンアンプリファイア was sold, and the tour's final show was filmed, later being released as the DVD 渋谷アンダーザスノウ ~冬駆ける眼窩~ ("Shibuya Under the Snow ~Fuyu Kakeru Ganka~) on March 5, 2008. It was also around this time that Megamasso created their alter band メガマチュ. Megamachu are almost the same as Megamasso, but instead they all wear mouse costumes and added "chuu" (チュー) to the end of their names. Megamachu were formed for CS Fuji Television 721's show "Sora Tobu! Baku Chuu Mondai." They had their live debut at the show's 2007 Christmas episode. They also released a single, キスミイチュチュ, on February 20, 2008, which was used as the aforementioned TV show's theme song. It reached #4 on the indies Oricon chart and #77 on the major Oricon chart where it charted for two weeks. Megamachu would only release one more new song, featured on Megamasso's best album, mega-star's prayer presents『メガマソ人気音源集』, released March 19, 2008. The track list was voted on by the fanclub and contains one new song by Megamasso, 朧月, and the new Megamachu song, 2つの弾丸. On July 8, 2009, Megamasso released their third full-length album SWEET SWITCH, which would be their last indies release. All live activities were temporarily paused throughout the summer as they were in the process of signing with avex trax and becoming a major band. Their first live without backing from NXSIE RECORDS was a one-man live on September 10 at Akasaka BLITZ called Akasaka Higi ~SWEET CORONATION~. Their major debut single "chimes" was released October 7. A five-stop tour titled chimes of lovely rebellion ~SWEET CORONATION~ started at Nagoya E.L.L. FITS ALL on November 11 and ended at Akasaka BLITZ on December 27. Their major full-length debut was M of Beauty, released March 10, 2010. The album reached #76 on the Oricon weekly chart, where it charted for a week and sold 2,059 copies. Megamasso released their fifth full-length album and second major album, Loveless, more Loveless, on February 16, 2011. The CD-only version comes with the bonus track "Until," the first song composed by bassist Gou, and the limited CD+DVD edition comes with the PV for すみれ September Love (feat. IZAM) as well as two live videos of the band performing the two singles from this album, トワイライトスター and 花びら. These live videos were taken from their concert on September 5, 2010 at Shibuya-AX.
