Mecca:83 (aka Rise aka 1/4 of the Alexis Davis Project) is a beat technician, remixer and semi professional crate digger from Manchester, UK. His first introduction to Hip-Hop was hearing A Tribe Called Quest’s “We Got The Jazz” on a skate video, aged 11. First starting out creating stop-tape beats on his parent’s hi fi, Mecca soon graduated to the world of hardware samplers in his teenage years and spend the next decade honing his skills on the drum pads. He first appeared in 2007 producing tracks on notable releases by the likes of Replife & Deborah Jordan, earning him respect and radio play from Gilles Peterson (BBC Radio 1) & Simon Harrison (Basic Soul) in the process. Fast forward to 2011 and Mecca released his first solo album “Messages” (under the alias Rise) via the London based Futuristica Music label: a smoked out blend of spiritual jazz samples and hip hop, nu-jazz and broken beat rhythms. The release was a critical success, earning him acclaim from press, djs and tastemakers alike. Mecca followed up Messages later in the year with the release of “Life Sketches Vols 1&2″ : 15 tracks of deep instrumental Hip Hop inspired by both golden era boom-bap and the new school beat scene. Life Sketches made a number of notable “best of 2011″ release lists and earned Mecca respect across a worldwide audience. In 2012 Mecca:83 continues to move with the momentum he has become known for throughout 2011: releasing a slew of new material onto the scene at a blistering rate and rocking shows throughout Europe with his drum machines always in tow. http://www.mecca83music.com http://www.facebook.com/mecca83beats http://www.soundcloud.com/solar-sound-system Read more on Last.fm.
