Malik Mansurov (Azerbaijani: Malik Məmməd oğlu Mansurov; born 12 October 1961 in Sumgait) is a Master tarzen, a player of the tar, a lute which is the symbol of Azeri classical music. Similar to Persian music, an Azerbaijani musician must be able to improvize inside the strict structure of a given musical mode. Not only is Mansurov a virtuoso improviser, he also shows a great subtlety in the way he handles the spirit of the several modes. Mansurov studied at the Conservatory between 1981-1986. Secondary Music School in the city of Sumgait in 1986 and taught the the art of tar at the Conservatory since 2002. Since 1989 he has played with Alim Qasimov. Read more on Last.fm.
