MADCHEN AMICK is the name of the band founded by the singer and artist Jimmy Zurek and the sound artist Robert Schwarz. The Viennese duo bonded over the bizarre world of David Lynch’s series Twin Peaks, the poetry of Heiner Müller, Johnny Cash’s ‘speed’, and the dark rockabilly heartbeat of Suicide, a perfect representation of No Wave Country as they call their style of music. Their sound evokes the colour of the walls of Dorothy Vallen’s apartment in David Lynch’s movie Blue Velvet combined with the sound of a powerful engine of a classic 50’s car. Jimmy Zurek’s lyrics are a literary montage of dialogues from movies of David Lynch, Jim Jarmusch, etc., texts by his own, and translations of poems of Heiner Müller. The songs are about a cake, that gets sent to jail, as in the song ‘Jail Cake’ or about the monologues on Special Agent Cooper’s voice recorder in ‘Big Majestic Douglas Firs’. Another song features Rubber Death who fetches a woman wearing Minnie Mouse shoes and the tune ‘With A Pistol in His Jeans’ is about a man that starts a revolution armed with the indignities of his life and a gun.
