Mc Junior e Mc Leonardo are brothers, Júnior and Leonardo, a Brazilian funk duo from Rio de Janeiro. Junior still lives in Rocinha, one of Rio's infamous favelas. The brothers' songs often talk about life in Rio's marginalized communities, especially the fear and anxiety that rule the day-to-day lives in the favelas where gang wars and violent crossfires with the police are the norm. Their most popular song "Rap das Armas" was featured in the Brazilian movie “Bope – Tropa de Elite” winner of the golden bear at the 2008 Berlin movie festival.The brothers gained popularity in Rio in the 1990s singing "proibidão" songs in the city's funk parties of bailes funk. Proibidão is a genre of funk associated with drug gangs that in the 80s and 90s were prohibited airplay Brazilian in radios because of controversial lyrics. Read more on Last.fm.
