A new industrial sound has been unleashed in Seattle. Lateral Tension manifests itself with powerful vocals and aggressive rhythm. Based on dark emotions, the music is fierce. Often reflecting on today's instability, Lateral Tension crosses the threshold of electro-industrial. Distorted vocals rage as percussive beats and caustic keyboards entrance. The band's first CD, Pressure Device, was instantly noticed by those who favor the sounds of electro-industrial music. * "Pressure Device is easily one of the best CD's I've gotten this year. Each song locks onto you and doesn't let go, all the while, subtly raising your blood pressure. Wumpscut/Leaether Strip style EBM does this by getting right in your face. Pressure Device, on the other hand, does it by slowly seeping into your system...a kind of jaded intravenous drip." -- Evilchild, Lowlife Webzine * "Packed with a wide variety of hard industrial-electronic aggro-creations, excellent sampling, incredibly good programming, smashing drumming, provocative lyrics and harmony, I highly recommend buying this CD." -- Kim Alexander, Last Sigh Webzine (nominated Lateral Tension as band of the month) * "I enjoyed the CD completely.... I find this a great turn-on to EBM music in specific and industrial in general." -- Mihir Tendulkar, Grinding into Emptiness Webzine * "Lateral Tension is a project I would highly recommend to anyone, especially fans of dark electro, or EBM." -- Ian Ross, Deadwyre Webzine * "I haven't heard a self-release of this quality since HWF's "fluid and meat." Superb sequencing, addictive vocals, fast beats, and pumping anger. If Individual Totem had a bastard child, it would be Lateral Tension. I spin this regularly, and I encourage all other DJ's to acquire copies for your shows, you won't regret it." -- Invein Webzine * "I am quite impressed... it is just the kind of thing I am looking for." --Paul Tribble, Radio Free Underground, (nominated the group as band of the month) * "It is a rare occasion when I discover a good elektro band without major label support that sounds as well-produced as Lateral Tension. Their CD "Pressure Device" is a must-have for anyone who appreciates the electro-industrial dance realm. Combining acid synthlines, emotionally provocative vocals, sleek breakbeats, and the occasional sample, LT pushes their energetic sound into an area usually inhabited only by larger major label acts. Overall, this disc is a must-have. It's already made a number of top ten lists on the newsgroups, and I'm sure they've sold quite a few of these. I wouldn't be surprised to find these guys on a bigger label like Metropolis in the near future." -- Jeff Danos, UEF Records / Electro-Industrial Musicians Network The formations of Lateral Tension began in Seattle. From deep within the cracks of the mind came forth the reflections of something both real and insane. The creation of A.J. Razor, Lateral Tension gained volition when Razor and Malachi began experimenting with sound. Days and nights became one as the electronic rhythm and tormented vocals took form. The sounds grew into structures of what came to be their first release titled Pressure Device. Synthesized sounds and electronic music combined with distorted and tormented vocals soon became the norm for Lateral Tension. After the initial recording of Pressure Device, S.R. Lankhaar joined the group. Initiating a complimenting stream of samples and noise, Lankhaar added to the live effect and stage chaos. Finding an unexpected audience for the surging expression of angst, Lateral Tension began receiving radio play on many local, national, and international stations such as "Cyberage," KUNM 89.9 FM, Albuquerque, New Mexico; "Sampler et Sans Reproches" of France and Belgium (whose station chose Pressure Deviceas CD of the week); and "Storming the Base of the Alien Foe," CKMS 100.3 FM, Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario (to name a few). "Excellent musical structure sums up this CD. Lateral Tension knows how to write cyber-industrial music," said reviewer of their Seattle show, Doug Seven, of Evolution Child Records and the Seattle based Noize Foundation webzine. Soon Richard Grind joined the group adding additional live string sounds and effects to performances. New tracks are currently being finished for Lateral Tension's next release, Moral Fracture.
