In 1984, a group of friends from the Bastian and Lucciana areas decide to form a band and go on stage to sing the fight of their people and that of all oppressed people. They take their name from the Arcusgi, a guerilla army from the 17th century led by Pascal Paoli to defend the island against the French invasion and for Corsican independence. Their lyrics are politically charged, poetic, and describe the everyday life and history of their people. The musical sound of the group can be characterized as a perpetual search for and encounter with other cultures, for example by incorporating Latin-American sounds, tempos, and rhythms or singing in languages other than Corsican, such as the song "Euskalduna naiz" (I am Basque), written in Basque, or "Askatasunera" (Towards Freedom), written in Corsican and Basque.
