Kings Konekted

Coming together in late 2000 under the name Kingdom’s Infantry (a name which stemmed from their graffiti crew Inner City Kings), the duo of Culprit and Dontez originally rapped over beats made on an original Playstation console. Diverse in background (Culprit is Serbian and Dontez is Aboriginal-Italian) and influences, the group tapped their love of music to break out of a cycle of violence in the western suburbs of Brisbane. Writing everyday and honing their onstage presence with small-time gigs in local Goodna, they soon became aware of Australian artists such as Lazy Grey and Brad Strut doing their own thing and realised they could step up their game. Switching their production technique from the Playstation to turntables, keyboards, drum machines and computers, they changed their name to Kingskonekted and went for theirs. They dedicated all their time and money to developing their talent, keeping their heads down and out of the scene until they had some genuine heat to bring to the table. Even though they had enough lyrics for three albums, they started out from scratch, determined to deliver the best material they could. With a growing supply of fresh music, they were given the opportunity to perform their first real sets through Yuin Huzami (The Coalition/United Notions), who showed faith in their own style and originality. At the same time, they were constantly recording and scrapping material, constantly striving for a higher standard. Travel, life experience, family and friends made them both humble and wise, and they continued to refine their beats and rhymes. They’ve since been invited to collaborate with leading Brisbane artists The Optimen, Pure Product, The Coalition, and 750 Rebels and are contributing to the upcoming compilation from producer Asip of Dead Beats. With an enviable list of national and international supports under their belt (Lord Finesse, Roc Raida, RA the Rugged Man, Yungun, Def Wish Cast, the Funkoars, Vents, Coalition, Muph & Plutonic, Pegz), Culprit and Dontez are now working on a mixtape presented by Stricknine (producer for MF Grimm, Tim Dog, Thirstin Howl The 3rd & Rack Lo) under Toaster Entertainment and preparing to record their first full length for Stricknine’s label: Class A Records.
