Keyrei (kee-ray): A hybrid of international words combined to mean beautiful music Keyrei was born in Los Angeles, CA and discovered a passion for music at a very young age. Being only 2 years old, her parents were astonished by her innate ability to memorize songs and carry a tune, and put her on the stage for the first time at their local church. She stole the show then, and intends to do the same now. “I’ve always loved to perform and whenever my father and I are in the same room, you can expect a full-fledged concert to unfold,” says Keyrei, who’s father played a pivotal role in directing her to hone her skills as singer all her life. A talented musician himself, Keyrei has always been blessed with the support of her father and credits him for pushing her to create her first album. Growing up, Keyrei also took interest in the flute and piano, and actively participated in elite vocal groups, school orchestras and musicals alike. After graduating from UCLA with a Bachelors degree in Political Science, Keyrei almost attended Law School, but could not deny her call in music and the arts. “Being young and confused, I really didn’t have the courage to step out as a performer and bet my life on it. I knew it was my dream, but I almost fell for the trap of the ‘safety net’ in trying to get a law degree,” states Keyrei. Finally determined to take a chance on that dream, Keyrei attended a performing arts institute in Hollywood where she studied under several re-known vocal coaches and songwriters, including R&B sensation Vesta Williams. Along the way, Keyrei proved not only to herself and peers alike of her talent for songwriting and composition. “I never knew I could write until I stepped into the recording studio. The creative juices have never stopped flowing since then.” Keyrei’s album is a testament to this, with 13 out of 15 songs being penned by the singer herself. As an artist, Keyrei has developed tremendously even throughout the course of her first album. Her writing is greatly inspired by relationships, but most of all, her personal relationship with God. Keyrei’s style is truly a fusion of her favorite genres of music including Electronica, Jazz, Pop, Gospel and R&B. Her greatest challenge was implementing her spirituality in the so-called dance music craze to send out a positive message to all her listeners. “Some people might find it strange, but I write from my heart, not the trend. I happen to love Electronica, and I wanted to create something for everyone to enjoy,” says Keyrei. Something different is definitely what she has blessed us with. Keyrei shares her journey through love and faith on her record and all the while, making the audience want to get up and dance on nearly every track. She is not afraid to make a statement nor celebrate her struggles. “I’ve been through a lot during the course of this album, and I just wanted to show the world that I made it! No matter what, God stood by me and I hope that my music demonstrates that.” Check out her official website at http://keyreimusic.com/ Read more on Last.fm.
