Jason Rubenstein is an independent progressive-rock and ambient keyboardist. He has released several full-length CDs, written music for television and film, and has performed on other independent artists' projects. His first project was with a progressive-rock band in 1985, recording a 4-song EP. After the band broke up (as they always seem to do), Jason returned to school to study jazz and piano in Chicago, performing locally in various jazz/rock fusion bands. In 1996, he released his first full-length CD, "Image", a collection of downtempo tracks influenced by WIlliam Orbit, Brian Eno, and other ambient-groove artists of the day. 1998's "Cathedral" is an eclectic mix of ambient, downtempo, and progressive rock, while "Tonecluster", released in 2000, is a collection of ambient music. Also released in 2000 was a collaboration with guitarist and fretless bassist Roman Morykit (Gypsy Soul) called "Distant Early Warning", a return to the mix of ambient, downtempo, and prog. Between 2000 and 2004, Jason wrote music for television and film. Now, after a ten-year break from publishing music, in 2014 Jason is releasing new, heavy progressive instrumental rock music: the EP "This is Not a Love Letter" of five tracks, and a full-length LP "New Metal from Old Boxes". The music was composed and recorded in 2013, and mixed and mastered in early 2014. Written and produced by Jason Rubenstein, mixed by Niko Bolas and mastered by Ron McMaster, the music is heavy, loud, and intense. Read more on Last.fm.
