Drummer Jaska Lukkarinen formed his first own band, the Jaska Lukkarinen Trio, in 2005. This trio is known for its energetic live gigs and impressive ensemble work. In trio's music one can find diverse influences: the trio combines the rhythmics and the harmony of the American jazz tradition with the expression and sound of the European tradition. As a group, the saxophone trio creates different possibilities to vary their music with improvisation and compositions. For example Sonny Rollins' and Joe Henderson's trio recordings can be seen as the musical models for also Jaska Lukkarinen Trio. The missing harmony instrument has worked as a starting point in forming the group. Central in the diverse and virtuosic work of the trio is the spirit of an ensemble: the most important thing is the idea of one instrument formed by three separate individuals. "You can definitely see the chemistry between us three when we are performing. We are friends and similar kind of people both at the stage and outside the stage. I believe this serves the thing we are trying to pass on to the audience", says Lukkarinen. Besides Lukkarinen, the trio includes two top musicians from the Finnish jazz scene; saxophone player Jussi Kannaste and bass player Antti Lötjönen. Read more on Last.fm.
