After several years as a guitar player in a Kingston-based blues/jazz/funk band, Jamil suddenly found that his band-mates had moved on from university while he had not! Without his music-making amigos, Jamil picked up his acoustic guitar and began to dabble in singing and songwriting. This quickly became his focus and passion. In the years that followed, right up until the present, Jamil has undertaken his own artist development by writing continuously, taking online courses through Berklee College of Music, and by performing in his hometown of Toronto. You'll often find him playing solo at The Cameron House, Free Times Cafe, NOW Lounge or The Rivoli. Jamil's songwriting has been recognized repeatedly. He was a finalist in the 2005 International Songwriting Competition for his song "Ocean Tide" (co-written with Ron Lopata), and "My Way Home" (also co-written with Ron) received an honourable mention in the 2005 Billboard Song Contest. Recently, American Songwriter Magazine published his lyrics for "The Sun Will Rise"... and the list goes on. With influences such as Paul Simon, James Taylor, Coldplay, David Gray and Ray LaMontagne, Jamil's Singer/Songwriter/Rock songs are described by Chris Iorfida (contributor to Chart Magazine and Eye Magazine) as "passionately sung with well crafted lyrics." The aspiring singer/songwriter has just finished his first full-length album, "ALWAYS ON A TIGHTROPE," with producer Ron Lopata (Tomi Swick, Simon Wilcox) which is available at iTunes and CD Baby.
