Irma Serrano (born 9 December 1933) is a Mexican actress, known for multiple scandals and controversies. Her nickname is "La Tigresa" or "The Tigress".She has appeared in celebrity gossip magazines and TV shows because of her political career. Irma Serrano appeared in more than 100 movies, plays and Spanish soap operas combined. She was part of an era that many critics call the "golden age" of Mexican entertainment productions. As a singer she jumped to fame during the sixties with her most famous single "La Martina". She was ordered jailed by the First Lady of Mexico in 1967 when she dared to serenade then Mexican President Gustavo Diaz Ordaz in Los Pinos, Mexico's official Presidential residence. It was rumoured they had a short lived romantic affair. Serrano has been known for dating men much younger than her. In 2003, she dated singer and composer Jose Julian, who is some fifty years younger. Serrano has been known for her public feuds with various Mexican actresses, and stories about Serrano being hard to work with and a hot-tempered person have appeared in some Spanish gossip magazines. According to her own autobiography she was kidnapped (actually ran away) at the age of 13 or 14. A politician whisked her away from the small town in southern Chiapas, Comitán de Domínguez, where she was born and raised. She went into acting, although the chances for roles in films diminish with their age. In her 70's she ran for Senator from her home state of Chiapas and won. She lives in palatial residences in Mexico City, all furnished with art masterpieces from around the world that she collected and accumulated during her singing, acting and political careers. On March 25, 2009 she was arrested in her home State of Chiapas and taken into custody to Mexico City's federal women penitentiary for supposed death threats and branding a gun 3 years earlier to an ex-tenant of one of her properties.
