Into Paradise were an alternative-rock band from Dublin, Ireland, and were originally called Backwards Into Paradise (1986-88). Their key members included Dave Long and Rachel Tighe. They began their recording life with the then-tiny Irish label, Setanta, home of Divine Comedy. Their first album was 'Under The Water' which sold modestly, before the major-label intervention by Ensign and the release of 'Churchtown' in 1991. Produced by ex-Sound lynch-pin, Adrian Borland, its related singles failed to sell with 'Burns My Skin' being banned from domestic radio due to the Gulf War. Its follow-up 'Angel' fared little better, despite sporting a superior version of 'Sleep' as its B-side - the band were promptly dropped when Ensign was wound up by its parent Chrysalis a while later. During their time on Ensign, they covered the Magazine song 'Shot By Both Sides' as a B-side, almost pre-empting the eventual recognition that Howard Devoto's band were to receive in the early 21st century. 'Churchtown' and 'Under The Water' have yet to be re-issued in re-mastered form. The band eventually moved back to Setanta and released a pair of mini-albums in 1992/93, 'Down All The Days' and 'For No One' before calling it a day in 1994. Their final single, 'Angelus', was released only on 7" which possibly helped its passage into the rare collectables listings early on. David Long is set to release a solo album 'Water Has Memory' in early 2013. Read more on Last.fm.
