Grains of Time

Since 1968, the Grains of Time have been harmonizing as the premiere men's a cappella ensemble at North Carolina State University. With a rich tradition of barbershop and men's glee club harmony and repertoire, the Grains have recently recast themselves as a bridge between the collegiate and professional a cappella genres. With a recent trip to the semifinals of the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella and a brand new high-energy live experience, the Grains have reestablished themselves as the forefront of collegiate a cappella. The Grains currently have seven members, which makes a huge difference in terms of the sound and presentation of their live show. No member is expendable in the group. The Grains perform songs ranging from the Irish folk song Homeward Bound, to modern R&B, to the barbershop style 1940's favorite, I'll Be Seeing You. The emphasis of the Grains is to present an engaging and entertaining show, with impeccable musicality at its foundation. The members of Grains of Time are drawn exclusively from the NCSU Choral Ensembles, under the direction of Dr. Alfred Sturgis. The Grains perform a variety of concerts each semester, ranging from informal gatherings at dormitories and private parties to large concerts at such venues as N.C. State's Stewart Theater and the BTI Center's A.J. Fletcher Opera Theater. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
