"The Gori Women's Choir" (Gori, Georgia) was founded in 1970 at the Gori School of Music. Their repertory ranges widely from the Renaissance to the present day, but with particular emphasis on music by contemporary Georgian composers, for whom the choir frequently provides an indispensable sounding board; among them Yosif Ketchakhmadze and Otar Taktakishvili, whose works are seldom heard in Western concert halls. The choir is also in close contact with composers from other states of the former Soviet Union. Occasionally, The Gori Women's Choir performs Georgian folk songs, but in the main, they are exponents of modern and contemporary Georgian music. Read more on Last.fm.
