Godzilla Black contains an undisclosed number of musicians from a variety of locations around the South East who are drawn towards the sinister hum of a rickety shack on the outskirts of London. They recorded a number of eps following the Residents theory of obscurity: if an audience is assumed to be listening the artistic merit of what is created is questionable. In January they threw off the shackles of this noble but restrictive ideology and released online, completely free, and to rapturous critical attention the fruit of the previous year's work: Their self titled debut album contains a selection of new songs plus a few reworked from their obscure eps. Drowned In Sound said of it; "When an artist makes it their prerogative to make their debut album free, it’s more than admirable. It demonstrates a desire to make their name known above all. With Godzilla Black's self-titled debut, that delight is only emphasised by the quality that on offer here. Godzilla Black rides on a wave of fright-ridden sleaze rock, and its existence in such a monetary-free realm could certainly leave some more named acts scared indeed. " Read more on Last.fm.
