Family Five is a German "soul-punk" band founded in 1981 in Düsseldorf by Xao Seffcheque (Die Post, Die Pest, Der Rest, O.R.A.V.) and Peter Hein (Charley's Girls, Mittagspause, Fehlfarben). Originally conceived as an ironic reference to what was fashionable in music at the time (funk and salsa), the record label Schallmauer put out a 12-inch by the group at the end of 1981 called "Bring deinen Körper auf die Party". In the following spring, the band (which wasn't really a band at that point) was scheduled to perform at a festival in Munich. Subsequently, Seffcheque and Hein recruited Rainer Mackenthun (drums), Andreas Brüning (sax), Marcus Wienstroer and Esther Nöcker. After the gig in Munich, the group decided to continue playing together with this lineup. The band then signed a record contract with Teldec. From 1984 on their records were put out by independent labels. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
