ESA (Electronic Substance Abuse) is Jamie Blacker! ESA was born in 2002 in order to cross the threshold from one genre of extreme music to another. Jamie Blacker up until this point had been writing music semi-professionally for years in the UK black / death metal scene, touring and recording alongside some of the most respected acts in the scene. Having decided to experiment in Dark Electronics, ESA began to slowly gain European and US notoriety, predominantly owing to a slew of critically acclaimed live shows which impressively incorporated powerful live beats, guitars and various surprise guest vocalist appearances, this along with a venomous and violent debut album 'Devotion Discipline and Denial' on premier American noise label 'Hive Records', meant that ESA had begun to claim it's own territory. Four studio albums, one remix album and countless collaborations / remixes later, working alongside acts such as Manufactura, Displacer, Iszoloscope, C-drone Defect, Memmaker and many many more, Electronic Substance Abuse had become well respected within the rhythmical noise scene and was demanding serious attention the globe over. Now based on ‘Tympanik Audio’ based in Chicago, with the last release 'Themes of Carnal Empowerment Pt1’ still receiving critic acclaim and dance floor attention, the sixth installment of the ESA catalogue and follow up to ‘Themes Pt1’ is well under way and looks set to make it's way to the eager public in late 2012 / early 2013. ESA's sound is always a hard one to pin down. Taking influences initially from European Rhythmical noise acts, the overall structures have developed and integrated countless influences from the broad spectrum of alternative and extreme music. The tone of ESA is harsh and oppressive, dripping with destructive and corroded grooves whilst still emanating sub conscious melodies and a strong sense of Spirituality. ESA's compositions are undoubtedly threatening and offensive floor stomping club tunes but also twist and churn enough to warrant more attentive listening. On the back of a full 15 date US tour alongside WASTE and Ivardensphere, spanning the entirety of North America, ESA is working hard on Themes Of Carnal Empowerment Pt2 whilst pushing live shows to their sonic brink in one-off European appearances in during Winter 2012 – Spring 2013.
