Born just outside of Chicago, Illinois, Emi was raised musically. Moving around a lot during her teen years, music was the constant while the scenery continued to change from Michigan to Illinois to Texas to Boston to England... Her Mom and Dad are both song-writers and sang with her from a young age. She learned how to harmonize when her Mom taught her how using The Beatles' "Rubber Soul" as a guide. She started writing songs and was in her first band, Rhythm and the Doghouse, at the age of 15 with her Mom, Dad and older brother. Emi moved to the south of England with her family when she was 16. It was here (half-way up a rock climbing wall) that she met J Carmichael, an English musician, song-writer and producer. Emi and J began writing and performing together until Emi moved back to America to study music at Berklee College of Music and Columbia College Chicago. She continued to visit and write with J over the 4-year period and they self-released their first album together, "BlueStar Cafe" in 2004. Emi moved to York, England after graduating from Columbia and married J in 2005. They formed Lowground, a laid-back electro-pop group and release 2 CD's, "Lowground" and "Long Way From Home". In March 2006, "Get Up" from Emi and J's debut album "BlueStar Cafe" was chosen to be a part of an international campaign for Life Fitness, the world leader in commercial and home fitness equipment. Life Fitness distributed 10,000 copies of "Get Up" along with other select tracks world-wide (including a rare "Get Up Remix"). Emi and J were flown to Las Vegas to perform in the legendary Ghost Bar in the Palms Hotel to promote the release. Early in 2008, Conspiracy Recordings asked Emi to write and record the vocals for the trance tracks "All Again" and "Tell Me". These tracks were picked up by by Grammy-nominated trance DJ Paul Van Dyk and released world wide in June 2008. Following their success with Life Fitness, Emi and J were then asked to arrange, record and produce 3 songs for the Terlato Wine Group in Summer, 2008. Terlato, an international wine company, made 70,000 copies of the CD and will be distributing it all over the US to promote one of their top-selling wines, Santa Margherita. Emi and James moved to Bristol in the Spring of 2009 - she continues to make music with J and always will, they have adopted the name Exitproject for all of their future releases. They write, record, mix and master all of their music in their two-bedroom flat. Written by Jamie Paris Read more on Last.fm.
