Elso Tumbay was a Chilean rock band formed in Santiago, Chile in 1996. The original lineup consisted of Carolina Sotomayor (vocals and tambourine), Cristián "Michu" Schmidt (guitar), Eduardo "Tato" Lira (bass guitar), Diego Fontecilla (violin), and Ignacio Farías (drums). They released their debut album, "Elso Tumbay" (1997), an original mix of rock, folk, medieval music, neo-psychedelia and surrealistic lyrics. Featured singles are aire and lucho estrujo . After an extensive tour in southern Chile promoting the first album, Schmidt left the band while recording their 2nd album and the rest of the members decided to turn into other projects. The band returned in 2004 with the release of "Niño Planta", with all original members reunited, but after a few months they parted ways once again and the band went on hiatus, until 2008 when they reappeared without Fontecilla and Schmidt (the latter being replaced by Sebastián González on guitar) and released their last album "Arbólica", breaking-up in 2010.
