Originally from Algeria, Karim Chaya, the charismatic singer, chose to set up home in the Ménilmontant neighbourhood of Paris. For the past 7 years, he has sung, in French and in Kabyle, of his vision of the world, his doubts as an immigrant, and his daily life. Made up of generous and talented musicians (a powerful rhythm section combined with a wild brass section), El Gafla, “the caravan” in Arabic, transports the public into its world during tours in Europe (Italy, Germany, Czech Republic, etc.) or further afield (Kazakhstan, Algeria, Qatar, etc.). Influenced by alternative rock with a little spice brought by Mano Negra, the Négresses Vertes and others from Zebda, their music reflects a multicultural background based on a rich artistic mix. Originaire d’Algérie, Karim Chaya, chanteur charismatique, s’est installé dans le quartier de Ménilmontant à Paris. Depuis maintenant 7 ans, il clame en français et en kabyle sa vision du monde, ses doutes d’immigré et son quotidien. Composé de musiciens généreux et talentueux (une section rythmique puissante couplée à des cuivres endiablés), El Gafla, « la caravane » en arabe, transporte le public dans son univers lors de tournées européennes (Italie, Allemagne, République Tchèque…) ou plus lointaines (Kazakhstan, Algérie, Qatar…). Influencé par le rock alternatif et épicé de la Mano Negra, des Négresses Vertes et autres Zebda, leur musique reflète un parcours multiculturel issu d’un riche brassage artistique.
